There are a certain handful of daily events that at their mention, automatically break Naomi's face into a giddy smile:
1. holding and eating a banana by herself for breakfast
2. receiving her gummy bear vitamin (the girls each get one, I get two. Who wants to swallow a Women's One-a-Day when you can have gummy goodness?)
3. the inevitable, slightly pre-chewed (mmm...mama bird mental image) 1/8 piece of pink Orbit gum that she gets to have, (and yes, swallow...you choose to let some things go. But if you are aware of some serious internal injury caused by such ingestion, do reply) because everyone else is having some.
4. getting to use hand sanitizer...not because she needs to, but because she's noticed it
and must have it.
5. "brushing" her teeth with her own little toothbrush with the slightest amount of pink Princess toothpaste.
For big sis, it's slightly more sophisticated things like watching an episode of VeggieTales or The Backyardigans while sissy takes a nap or a Fudgsicle for dessert.
In the school of hard knocks, the girls both suffered head injuries this week. Naomi's propensity to climb got her a nice gash on the back of her skull. She fell backwards out of a kiddy chair onto the sidewalk. Yes, I gave her the chair to hang out in and watch the older kids play, but before I noticed she had deemed the grass an unsuitable spot to play, she had it on the pebbled walkway. It was my first, "her hair is matted with blood, this could be brain damage" moment as a mom. But thankfully a wiser and calmer mama was there with me and assured that the blood was clotting, so no need for stitches. Naomi was fine five minutes later.
Olaiya, in fantastic fashion, was running and slipped, skidding face first on a friend's living room rug. So she's been sporting a carpet-burn on her nose this week. No problem, except random people keep asking, "What happened to her nose?" Fortunately, she's not been super-sensitiva about it. Yay self-confidence! Or maybe just ignorance. Either way, no harm, no foul.
dirty mouth?
