Costume capers

So Tara, what's up with the two cape-ish costumes?
I'll tell you.

Big sister sees Mickey Mouse and the Three Musketeers. (My best guess as to from where the following came...)
Child asks to be a musketeer for Halloween.
Mama dismisses Halloween costume request; big hat, feather, etc. deemed to difficult to procure. Child obediently moves on to other mother-prompted ideas, but mama senses child's lack of inner-excitement and oldest-child desire to please.
Mama allows younger daughter the purchase of Barbie and the Three Musketeers while running errands with full knowledge that prior costume desire will be rekindled.
Daughter discovers an all purple pretty musketeer at a masquerade ball and tells mama she doesn't need a hat to be a musketeer, she just needs a mask.
Mama submits to costume idea.
Mama takes little girls to craft store to obtain neccesary accessories.
Big girl gets makings for a mask.
Little girl wants makings for a mask.
Despite the purchase of sparkly snowflakes adhesives (to be applied for a "snow princess fairy" costume), little girl ditches in favor of inspiring dress up-box bunny ears.
Mama deems mask + ears = Super Bunny
Little sister will use big sister's super girl birthday cape.
Mama realizes big sister's costume should also have cape.
Birthday party favor remnants mercifully provide ready-for-costume cape components.
Dance paraphernalia mercifully furnishes all other outfit essence.
Voila.
Trick-or-treating with Super Bunny Ballerina and Masquerade Musketeer.

Little pink nose, and in this shot (versus all the others where her mask is sadly ill-fitting), big brown eyes.
After literally a dozen different ideas of what-to-be in the last two months (a tooth fairy! a snow princess! a snow princess fairy! an Easter bunny! a jewel! a flower jewel!) , she "decided" the afternoon of Halloween. This decision was reached via mama laying out all the elements of one of those ideas and saying, "Naomi, do you like your costume?!?!" A Super Bunny I tried to deliver and a "Super Bunny Ballerina" she became. 'Cause really, it is just all about the packaging.

Some silly and sass.

French fleur-de-lis and (super) bitty bunny tail.

This is hilarious! I love it that you let your kids take the lead in costume designing. I know of a mom who made her little 3 year old dress up as the state of Vermont. (?!) You are a great mom! (Sorry for the vague google identity of Mom - I usually only write on my kid's blogs, Mel being one of them. Thanks for being a great friend to her!)

Too cute! My girls were only given the opportunity to choose their favs from the dress-up box half an hour before we left! This was also the first year we dressed up at all. They loved it, of course. But I'm glad I didn't do it sooner b/c Meg got tired half way through the 5 blocks we walked and couldn't carry her candy and was cold ... you know!
